Not everything in life has to be 50/50
In life, and especially in relationships, not everything has to be an exact match. Sometimes, give and take fits the needs of the moment, and that's okay too. Here are some situations that illustrate how the perfect balance isn't always mathematical.
1. Sometimes we can go out to eat and if one is poor, the other treats
And that's okay! In relationships (whether friendship, romantic relationship, or family), there are days when one is at 100% and the other at 0%. Those moments of mutual support are what build the best stories and the most meaningful memories. If you invite today, you'll be invited tomorrow. That's life!
2. The mood of the home can depend on just one person
There are days when one of you is at 90% and the other at 10%, and that's okay. Maybe today one of you is the one who brings the spark of joy, and tomorrow, when you need a break, the other will fill the space with energy. Relationships are like that: a back and forth of efforts that aren't always shared evenly.
3. Sometimes one has a weak stomach from eating too many tacos, and the other takes care
When too many tacos work their magic, it's someone else's turn to take care of you. It might be 20/80 or 80/20, but the important thing is that there's someone willing to give you a little panela water or broth to recharge your batteries. What would we be without that person who's there in the less glamorous moments?
4. Sometimes one can buy Bohíos and the other can break it in
In a relationship, there's also room for sharing, even when it comes to style. One buys, the other wears new clothes, and both complement each other. The important thing is that both feel comfortable, whether it's with the clothes or the gesture of sharing.
The important thing to remember is that relationships aren't about carrying a calculator to measure how much you give and how much you receive. They're about companionship, support, and that imperfect balance that makes us human. Because in the end, not everything has to be 50/50 for it to work.
